Unbinding Study

Wed, October 12, 201610:30 AM

When Pastor Tim Knauss spoke to the Evangelism Committee and Council on July 12 he introduced a book that Pastor Ed has decided to use as this Fall’s study guide for the adult weekday program. The classes will be offered on Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m. (note new time). An evening session will be held on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. Classes will begin on September 14 & 15.

On another page you saw what incredible steps St. Matthew has taken this year in regard to Stewardship. That was in large measure due to the educational efforts of our new Stewardship Committee. While the work of that committee will continue to grow and inspire us to new heights in giving, it is time to realize our need to reach out to our current members, and the community, with a renewed emphasis on sharing God’s love.

Evangelism is not a popular word among most Churches until they get desperate. St. Matthew is not setting the “Cove” on fire but we have turned the corner when it comes to financially supporting what we consider important. This fall we will take a renewed look at how we can “Unbind the Gospel” so as to be able to share it with one another in this community of faith.

When I went to St. John’s Lutheran in Columbia my 70 year old secretary was always reminding me, “When all else fails, read the directions.” Now it is time to say about Evangelism: “When all else fails, pray.”

We hope that an expanded number of you will take advantage of this opportunity to learn to experience God in a new way and to learn how that can lead to spiritual experiences, the likes of which we have never had. Note above the starting dates. See you in class.
